Flooding is the most significant natural hazard in Malaysia in terms of population affected, frequency, area extent, flood duration and social economic damage

Based on a study by the Ministry, an average of RM 915 million costs of flood damage occurs every year

At its peak, in the years of 2006 and 2007, the flood damages is estimated cost about RM 1.5 billion and was recorded as one of the most costly events in Malaysia

In the most recent flood incident which happened on February 2013 was the Puchong flash flood

In this incident, there were 140 vehicles which were reported to be trapped in a car park near IOI Mall and this brought traffic to a standstill at several main roads in the area

These flood incidents causes major damage to buildings, cars as well as homes which result in massive amount of expenditure needed to reconstruct and repair the damages of the aftermath of these massive floods.
