Solar Brightens Shanghai In May

8th (2014) International Photovoltaic Power Generation Exhibition Successfully Held.

On May 20-22, 8th (2014) International Photovoltaic Power Generation Exhibition, an annual grand event in photovoltaic (PV) industry, was successfully held in Shanghai New International Expo Center.

Tens of thousands of PV products and services were showcased this year. JA Solar presented its highlight products: Percium (high efficiency mono crystalline module products), Riecium (high efficiency Poly crystalline module products), Wracium and Tigo (smart module). YINGLI brought the mascort “Fuleco” of Brazilian world cup, attracting attention of visitors. GCL showed its new generation of S series cells and its latest earning report, which says GCL wafer production in the first quarter this year accounts for thirty percent of the global market.

The above three giants in PV sector, together with 1,526 exhibitors from 90 countries in the fields of solar cells, materials and components, equipment manufacturing, structural engineering, publishing and research and consulting, brought tens of thousands of advanced exhibits, brightening the 150,000 meters square expo center. Crowds of people inside and outside the industry heard about this expo and came to visit and communicate, looking around in all 13 halls.

In the beautiful month of May, SNEC fully reflected the charm of the emerging PV industry, and truly showed the trend of current global photovoltaic industry.

The expo demonstrates four characteristics of national and global PV industry:

-  The major trend of the fast development of new energy goes on and even becomes stronger. People’s expectation for photovoltaic new energy which will replace traditional fossil energy becomes greater.

-  Through trial under unpredictable climate, breakthroughs have been made in the fields of theoretical study, materials development, process innovation, engineering application, etc.

-  Trade protectionism represented by the U.S. and EU has become the norm, so has the trend of international communication and bilateral and multilateral cooperation. And the achievements of international cooperation continuously come out.

-  The national support policies for PV new energy have been confirmed basically. With the trend of fully enhancing the PV application and by overcoming many difficulties, new advancements have been made for PV power plants and distributed power generation stations.

This exhibition is an ideal platform for PV companies and institutions at home and abroad to show their wisdom and products; it is also a good communication platform for scientists and elites in the global industry to spark inspiration and make creation; and it is a great booster for people inside and outside the industry to figure out current situation, remain confident, pay more attention to this strategic emerging industry, and encourage more people to grasp opportunity to devote themselves to the industry.

The agenda of this three-day SNEC conferences includes the themes of Solar Leaders Dialogue (“How to survive and develop in an environment where trade protective actions have become the norm”, “PV industry’s path to integration and transformation”, “New opportunities brought by new technologies and new models”), Scientific Conference, Global PV Financial Summit, Industry Workshop on Global PV Market – Outlook and Development Strategies, multilateral Industry Workshop on Advanced PV Technologies, PV forum 2014 – Status and Outlook of Distributed Generation and Energy Storage System in the PV Industry, and also bilateral and multilateral UK PV Investment Opportunities Workshop, 2020/2030/2050 China Solar Energy & PV Development Roadmap Workshop, Sino-German Cooperation Workshop on Solar PV Industry. These conferences attracted considerable attention. Even the Press Conference on China's PV Industry in Answering to U.S. Anti-Dumping Tariff held by China Chamber of Commerce for Import & Export of Machinery & Electronic Products (CCCME) entrusted by China's Ministry of Commerce was included as a part of SNEC conferences. It facilitated senior leaders to closely listen to the wishes from the grassroots practitioners of PV industry.

SNEC Expo and Conferences are approved by China's Ministry of Science & Technology, led by Chinese Renewable Energy Society (CRES), Chinese Renewable Energy Industries Association (CREIA), Shanghai Federation of Economic Organizations (SFEO), Shanghai Science and Technology Development Exchange Center (SSTDEC), Shanghai New Energy Industry Association (SNEIA), and jointly hosted by 19 international institutions and organizations, including Asian Photovoltaic Industry Association (APVIA). Since the day last edition closed, the Organizing Committee had been making preparations and attracting investment for a year. To give exhibitors best service and expand social influence, the Organizing Committee planned many events such as SNEC2014 “Top 10 Highlights” Awards and On-site Presentation, Creative Design Competition and On-site Presentation, and Global Media Joint Interview. There are more than 200 professional media and new media from China and foreign countries, invited or voluntarily, came up to participate in the interview.

In the first day, the news center successively released many industry news: Prof. Dinghuan Shi (Counsellor of the State Council; President, Chinese Renewable Energy Society (CRES)) introduced the new trends of global PV market; Dr. Zhongwei Zhang (CTO, Shanghai Aerospace Automobile Electromechanical) announced the release of Collection of Asian PV Industry Standards -- Standards of China (First Draft) within the PV industry; Organizing Committee successfully signed agreement of online exchange platform “SNECMALL” with Mr. Zhenfu MA (CEO, CASTEL Engineering Ltd) and Dr. Pengjun SUN (Director, Fudan University Innovation Center); Mr. Baoshan LI (Secretary-General, CRES) introduced the 2014 China International Photovoltaic Exhibition (CPVE) ; Mr. Peter Helm (executive director, WIP) introduce the 2015 Africa PVSEC.

SNEC is, as always, supported by relevant departments like State Science and Technology Commission and Shanghai Municipal People's Government. Mr. Yiren Jiang (the former chairman of Shanghai Municipal CPPCC; chairman, SFEO) and Prof Dinghuan Shi attended the opening ceremony and delivered welcome speeches. Other well-known attendees of PV industry include Bohua Wang (Secretary-General, China Photovoltaic Industry Alliance (CPIA)), GuiqingWANG (vice-chairman, CCCME), Guangbin SUN (Secreatary-General, CCCME), Xingfa MA (Secreatary-General, Shanghai Committee of Science and Technology), Prof Martin GREEN (professor, University of New South Wales (UNSW)), Mr John SMIRNOW (Vice President of Trade & Competitiveness, Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA)), Mr Oliver Schaefer (President, European Photovoltaic Industry Association (EPIA)), Mr. Gongshan ZHU (Chief Chairman, Asian Photovoltaic Industry Association (APVIA); Chairman, GCL-Poly Energy Holdings Limited)), etc. The opening ceremony was presided over by Mr. Baoshan LI (Secretary-General, CRES).
